Healthline Segment: Understanding Cholera with Nurse Ayomide from Diamed Centre

On our Healthline segment, we were joined by Nurse Akinwekomi Ayomide O. from
Diamed Centre Hospital, who shed light on cholera prevention and awareness amid
rising reports of outbreaks in some regions.
She explained the causes, symptoms, and treatments of cholera, stressing the
importance of clean water, proper sanitation, and early medical attention.
Nurse Akinwekomi also tackled some of the myths surrounding cholera, from the false
belief that alcohol or peppery foods can “kill” the bacteria, to the misconception that
only people in rural areas are at risk.
Her message was clear: “Cholera thrives where hygiene fails and prevention starts with simple habits like handwashing and safe food handling.”
