Senate Bill to Unify Emergency Call Number Passes Second Stage

A bill for a law to unify emergency call number in the country has passed second on the floor of the Nigerian Senate. The bill tagged National emergency toll service,NETS, was sponsored by Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua (Katsina Central), seeks to make emergency numbers accessible and rapid response system through a dedicated three-digit, toll-free number available across the country. The proposed law which received overwhelming backing, also empowers the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to serve as the regulatory authority for the service, with the aim of strengthening coordination in emergency response across the country.
