Terror in Kwara: Gunmen Attack Church in Eruku, Kill Worshippers and Abduct Others by Grandprince Ita

The quiet community of Eruku in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State has been thrown
into mourning after armed attackers stormed a church during a service, killing several
worshippers and abducting others. The assault, which occurred during a live-streamed service,
has sparked outrage and renewed fears about rising insecurity in Nigeria’s rural communities.
According to eyewitnesses and security reports, gunmen invaded the Christ Apostolic Church,
Oke Isegun, on Sunday evening, opened fire on worshippers who were gathered for service.
The attackers shot sporadically, leaving chaos and panic as congregants scrambled for safety.
In the aftermath, at least three people were confirmed dead, while the pastor and several
Members of the congregation were allegedly taken away.
A Community Shaken:
The attack has left Eruku residents traumatised, with many describing the incident as the most
brutal assault the town has ever witnessed. The fact that the attack was captured live on camera has added to the shock, with graphic footage circulating across social media showing the horrifying moment gunmen entered the church.
Families of abducted victims remain distressed, waiting for updates as authorities intensify
search operations. Local vigilantes, hunters and security operatives have reportedly been
deployed to comb nearby forests in pursuit of the perpetrators.
Government and Community Response:
Security agencies in Kwara State have condemned the attack and promised swift action to track
down the assailants. The state police command says tactical teams have been mobilised, and investigations are ongoing. Traditional rulers, community leaders and civil-society groups have
also called for urgent intervention, noting that rural communities remain dangerously vulnerable.
The Larger Problem:
This incident adds to a worrying pattern of attacks on worship centres, homes and farms across
the North-Central region. Beyond the immediate tragedy, it raises questions about intelligence
gathering, rural security architecture, and the increasing boldness of armed groups.
A Call for Protection and Justice:
Communities like Eruku deserve safety. Places of worship should never become targets. As
families mourn their loved ones and pray for the return of those abducted, Nigerians continue to
demand stronger, more proactive measures from security agencies.
This tragedy is not just a Kwara incident — it is a national reminder that no community should
be left unprotected, and no life should be lost to unchecked violence.
